A revised version of the Aston Martin DB6 was introduced in August 1969 and after some discussion about calling it DB7 was eventually released as the DB6 MK2, the final development of the DB4 introduced some 11 years earlier! The car was produced alongside the Aston Martin DBS and as such shared some if its components including the 8.15 x 15" tyres, 3 eared spinners, larger clutch, standard power steering and the DBS seats. The most distinguishable feature of the DB6 MK2 is the lipped wheel arches necessary for the increased tyre size. Only 240 MK2 cars were produced, with less than half that number with Vantage engine, until November 1970 when production was given over entirely to the DBS and DBSV8.
This DB6 MK2 left the factory in its original Celeste Blue paintwork and Dark Blue Connolly, Vantage engine and fuel injection. It was first registered in June 1971 via HW Motors Ltd to its first keeper Farm Facilities Ltd from Henley-on-Thames. At some point following this it was exported to the USA where it eventually came into the hands of a Mr Hoare from Churchville Pennsylvania. Mr Hoare undertook some restoration to the DB6MK2 and, like most other FI cars, had it converted to Weber Carburettors before parting company with it when it was exported back to the UK in 1995. Some correspondence in the file shows it having some further restoration when in the hands of Mr O’Brien from Grays in 1998 before coming into Desmond’s hands in 2000. Desmond sold the Aston to its last but one owner in 2001 when more remedial work and many improvements were undertaken. These included overhauls to brakes and suspension, fitting of handling kits front and rear, replacement of many parts and regular maintenance and servicing along with chassis work and new sills being fitted in 2016, all of this work carried out exclusively by Desmond J Smail Ltd. Having enjoyed his car for many years and with considerable improvements the owner decided to sell it in 2018 to the current owner who decided to enhance this DB6 MK2 even further. He took it to marque specialist RS Williams for a complete engine re-build to 4.7 litre RSW Cosworth spec along with much other mechanical work, dash re-build, full carpet re-trim and Connollisation of the leather. This DB6 MK2 Vantage presents exceptionally well, has been well cared for and improved, and comes with a comprehensive history file.
